End of Week 48 - Penultimate Goal and some!

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you all had a great weekend.

My eldest daughter, Shannon, came home from college this past weekend.  First year of college finished and now she's home for the summer - yay!

Over the past few weeks, I have been maintaining my weight and so I did some research to see how I could kick start my weight loss again.

Last week I posted about maybe doing too much exercise and not eating enough to compensate etc, also about changing the way I exercise.

So this past week, I have alternated the forms of exercise as much as I could.  I upped the weights a little in strength training, upped the elliptical levels at the gym. I also changed the eating slightly, to increase the protein and reduce the carbs.

Onto the workouts.

This week I am going to try and do three visits to the gym, I'll see which days work the best and see how I go.

Let's do the Weigh in.

Start Weight
220 lb

Weight End of Week 47
151 lb

Weight this Week
149 lb

Weight Loss
2 lb

Weight Loss Total
71 lb

Whoop whoop!  Back on track!  Penultimate goal, 150 lb, reached and some!

My next goal (posssibly the last, but will review) is 140 lb - so only 9lb to go!  Think I need to go to a boot camp or something LOL!

I have reached the 150 lb for Canada's 150th Birthday Year - 2 months ahead of July 1st celebrations. I wonder if I can reach the next goal by then?  Although, I am giving myself till Christmas - think I can do that :-)

It seems that the change of exercise and eating habits has worked for now and got me back on track.

If you have any tips about losing that last few pounds let me know!

End of Week 47 - Hmmmm! Fear of Failure and a bit of research.

Hi everyone.  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend.

I'm a day late writing my post this week, what with Easter Weekend.

I wanted to do a little bit of research, more on that in a moment.  I'll go straight into last weeks workouts and the weigh in for now.

The weather played nice for a couple of days last week so managed a couple of walks in the sunshine :-)  I have taken a couple of days off over the long weekend - just because :-)

Onto that weigh in.

Start Weight
220 lb

Weight End of Week 46
151 lb

Weight this Week
151 lb

Weight Loss
0 lb

Weight Loss Total
69 lb

So!  Another maintain!

I have this fear of failing - but I have to keep telling myself that in no way have I failed!  I have after all lost 69lb!!  But that doesn't stop me wondering what I'm doing wrong - if anything.

Then I re-read the quote from last weeks post "Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough." And that's what it is - my determination is keeping me on the right track,  so I hit the internet and did some research, and this is what I found.

Hitting that plateau can be hard on your mind set, however there are things we can do.

I found this great article by Jillian Michaels (fitness expert from Biggest Loser etc) heres the link if you want a full look at what she has to say - but here are a couple of the key points that I picked up on.

  1. Are you keeping track of your daily calories?  Yes I am.  I use My Fitness Pal to keep account of my daily calorie intake and exercise.  I am pretty vigilant with recording what I eat, drink etc and what's the point in not doing it properly - you are only lying to yourself - right?!
  2. Are you trying to lose Vanity Pounds? Yes - I suppose :-)  The last 10 - 15 lb can always be the hardest part of any weight loss program.  You weigh less, so your body has to work harder to get rid of those last few pounds.  Your body needs some fat to survive on,  if you intensify your workouts and cut calories (energy out to energy in) your metabolism slows down and your body will think you aren't going to eat enough so decides to hold onto that extra fat as a safety net!  Bummer right!  So, where I thought by doing the extra workouts sometimes up to 3 times a day, Treadclimber - Gym - Nordic Walk and keeping the calorie intake down was good (around 1250 cals per day), actually I was sabotaging my weight loss!

So, what do I do about it!  Changing up what I eat and changing the way I exercise.

For this coming week (to see how I go),

Step 1 - I am going to limit myself to one form of exercise a day. And also alternate the days. Tonight I am going to the gym with hubster - tomorrow I will do the Treadclimber or Nordic Walk (weather permitting) and then a gym day, walk day etc

Step 2 -  To try lowering my carbs/fats intake (not eliminate completely) and raise my protein intake. Why?  Carbs are an important source of fuel for our muscles during exercise, fat is also needed for everything from brain function to cell structure.  Calorie for calorie however, protein has the most metabolic benefits for weight loss.  Upping the protein, increases satiety (makes you feel full when eating), stimulates energy expenditure (burns more calories) and preserves muscle!

That's the plan.  We will see if it helps kick start that weight loss again.

I can do this and I have to keep telling myself that I feel great, look great and have already achieved so much!

Do you have any help hints or advice when you hit that plateau?  Leave them in a comment for me :-) Have a great week everyone.

End of Week 46 - One of THOSE weeks :-)

Hi there everyone.  I trust you all had a fabulous week.

Hubby was off work last week and we took the opportunity to spend some us time together.  Even going to the gym each day :-)

Didn't end up going clothes shopping, but I did get myself another pair of walking shoes now that the weather is finally changing for the better.

I did manage one 5km Nordic walk on Monday of last week, but the rest of the week it rained!  So the gym and the Treadclimber took a beating :-)

Let's get onto the workouts.

With hubby off - I did spend some extra time at the gym and felt really good about it.  I also am up another fitness level to 65 :-)  More details on that fitness score can be found HERE.

Let's do the weigh in.

Start Weight
220 lb

Weight End of Week 45
151 lb

Weight this Week
151 lb

Weight Loss
0 lb

Weight Loss Total
69 lb

So, even though I spent more time at the gym, I have maintained this week.  However, I still feel as though I am doing really well and know this last bit of weight loss is going to be harder.

To keep me motivated I thought I would do some measurements and stuff :-)

If you click on the photo it will enlarge if you need to see the measurements more clearly LOL!

As you can see from the measurements there has definitely been some more improvement since February.  This keeps me still thinking positive, and look at those hour-glass measurements 38-30-38 :-)

Some other encouraging measurements!

Thought I would calculate the percentage of Body Weight that I have lost since I started this journey back in May last  year.  Using the following calculation :-

Original Weight - Current Weight = Weight Loss
(Weight loss x 100)/Original weight = Body Weight Loss Percentage

220 - 151 = 69
(69 x 100)/220 = 31.36%

Oh my - that is almost a third of the original me!

While we are at it let's do my BMI (Body Mass Index).  The recommended level of BMI for a healthy person is between 18.5 and 25.  I started this journey at a BMI of 35.5 !!!  That is classed at Obese! Not a nice word but it is what it is!

I am happy to report that as of today my BMI is currently  24.37 and I am now classed as being in the normal healthy range for my height.  However, I know I am still carrying a little extra fat, so with continued exercise and toning that will improve :-)

Keeping motivated at this point in the journey is important, hence doing the measurements and other calculations and it reminds me how far I have come.

Have a fabulous week everyone.

End of Week 45 - Never in a million years!

Happy Monday everyone.  I trust that you all had a great week.

I decided, several weeks ago, to rid my wardrobe of all the TOO big stuff that I had in there!  The last time I lost weight (not this much) I kept the old clothes and think that was my mistake!  Put a bit of weight on - oh I can wear this - put more weight on I can where this!  So, to purge the wardrobe and give some to the charity shop was fabulous.  Now, if I put a bit of weight on, it's not a case of putting old clothes on, or buying new - I can say oops need to loose a couple of pounds things are getting tight!

I am slowly venturing out into the world of shopping (wasn't ever my favourite thing to do, but that's changing LOL!) - nothing too over the top yet as still loosing weight.

Another visit to Costco on the weekend and they had some lovely capri jeans.  So I picked up two sizes as I'm still unsure of my size.  Picked up a 12 and also a size 10, really not thinking that the smaller size would fit but - you just never know do you?!

Anyways, came home and tried them on - OMG the 12 was too big and the 10 fits wonderfully! I never thought in a million years that I would fit in a size 10!   So I took the 12 back, with pleasure, and treated myself to a second pair :-)  Wonder what size I will be at the end of this journey?

I'm still a bit shocked to be honest, as I really can't remember being a size 10!  Also, as I'm still losing weight - I don't want to buy too many clothes, but I do need some to live in through the summer :-)

Hubby is off this week, so we might do a little bit of shopping to enhance the wardrobe and we might even treat ourselves to a lunch date :-)

Anyways, here's this weeks workout :-)

And straight on to weigh in.

Start Weight
220 lb

Weight End of Week 44
152.5 lb

Weight this Week
151 lb

Weight Loss
1.5 lb

Weight Loss Total
69 lb

That's another 1.5 lb in the right direction :-)

Another 1 lb to penultimate goal and then will set my new and possibly final goal!

I hope you all have a fabulous week.
